Preparation

Preparing for a kitten takes lots of time and planning.
Some necessary supplies you should purchase ahead of time are:

• A kennel or carrier
• a litter box
• litter
• some type of scratching post
• a premium brand kitten food
• water and food dishes
• a brush for grooming
• kitten shampoo
• nail clippers
• multiple cat toys
• a cat bed

Make sure you have a veterinarian picked out for your new kitten (s). Locate an emergency vet with in reasonable distance; you never know when an emergency might sneak up. It is better to be prepared.

Kitten proof your house, make sure there are no loose wires or cables, toxic substances, or objects that can be swallowed lying around. Check to make sure there aren't any places for your kitten to hide, get stuck, or lost in.

Litter box

Your kitten will be litter box trained before it leaves My Ragdoll Heaven. Your litter box should be placed in the main area of your house, or some places where your kitten can find always locate it. You may be required to have two litter boxes until your kitten learns where the litter box is located. We personally use EverFresh, which is a clumping litter. It works great, a little on the spendy side but well worth it. We definitely recommend it to our buyers.

Grooming and Nails

My Ragdoll Heaven Kittens are taught that grooming and nail trimming is part of the regular routine. We provide them with scratching posts and cat trees. We brush them regularly to get them used to grooming. My Ragdoll Heaven has a strict NO DECLAW policy; it is part of our contract.

We recommend you continue the routine of regular grooming and nail trimming of your kitten (s). We also suggest you supply him/her with a good sized scratching post with sisal rope on it. A scratching post will generally prevent your kitten from using your furniture and other house old items for scratching. Cat trees are a wonderful addition for your kitten, cat trees give them something to climb, instead of your furniture!

A ragdoll's coat is quite easy to groom and does not mat. Their coats are medium to long in length, with a very soft silky texture. It is often compared to rabbit fur. Ragdoll's will groom themselves regularly. However we still recommend you groom your ragdoll once a week or once every two weeks. Kittens will generally enjoy a regular grooming, because they like to receive love and attention. An occasional bath may be required. Remember to use kitten shampoo, as some cat shampoos are not made for kittens too.

Vaccinations

Before your kitten leaves My Ragdoll Heaven, it will be up to date on it's vaccines. It is recommended that you continue the vaccine schedule. It's always best to talk with your vet to see what schedule is best for you and your kitten. Email us if you would like to see our recommended vaccine schedule.

We recommend that you do not vaccinate your Ragdoll kitten against FIP (feline infectious peritonitis).
